Last night I was walking to the BART station in Berkeley and noticed the moon hiding coyly behind Venus. I stopped. I've been thinking about art-in-life but somehow missed this.
Q: How did I miss this for so many nights?
A: I've been sitting in front of my computer for lots of hours (but, thankfully, not with writer's block!).
Q: Does the above sounds familiar?
A: If yes, breathe deeply, close the cover and go say good night to the moon.
One more reason to love teaching - it gets me out of the apartment/neighborhood cafe to drink in the sensational realm. A friend once remarked that I notice the butterflies. Best compliment, ever. And not only because I love Nabokov. When I get that glazed over look, I try to remember the butterflies.
*Thanks to Harold Davis for this beautiful photo. No, that's not the view from the Berkeley BART station.

Well, I might suggest that Venus was hiding coyly behind the moon, but that would be the proverbial picking of nits, would it not?
I, too, took a look at the moon last night as I was walking around in Newport Beach (boy, I love 70 degree winter days! They don't get that in Wheaton.) I was struck by the perfect crescent of the moon. I know I've seen it like that hundreds of times, yet something about last night actually stuck in my mind.
...which is why I'm a social scientist, not a scientist, I suppose! My right brain overrode left brain in that particular perception.
The balmy weather does make it easier to stop and appreciate the night sky!
I'm glad you like my photo, there's nothing more special than looking at the night sky.
I spend a great deal of time photographing the night sky. This story shows one example.
Best wishes - Harold
Harold,
Lovely! I have bookmarked your blog and look forward to more night skies of note.
